Having a 10 inch chef knife is not essential for everyone but if you have larger vegetables to cut up then this size will make short work of it. Vegetables such as cabbage, squash, bunches of green beans and rows of carrots for example can be cut through with just a single stroke.
Watermelon is yet another situation where the extra length and the weight of the knife will make cutting easier and quicker.
If you don’t already have one and are not sure if you want to make the investment, you could go for one of the less expensive versions to see how you get on with it.
If you are seeing the benefits and are used to using some of the top brands kitchen equipment then you can simply upgrade.
Speaking for myself, I just pull the larger blade from the block by habit for the right situations mentioned above.
Below I have added suggestions of the better versions in varying prices which will suit most people’s pocket.
Starting With Number 1.
First on the list is the Victorinox 10 Inch Fibrox Pro Chef’s Knife. This is an ergonomically designed knife which has been fitted with a Fibrox Pro handle.
Designed to handle many chopping chores it is well weighted and balanced for easy handling.
10 Inch Multipurpose Pro Chef Knife
Number 2.
Is the 10 Inch Mercer Culinary Genesis Forged Chef’s Knife. It features a non-slip grip which is an important feature, as our hands are often wet and slippery when preparing food.
Made in a High-carbon German steel ensures no corrosion will take place.
The tang provides an excellent balance and comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
Chef Knife With Precision Forged 10 Inch Blade
Number 3.
Is the second 10-Inch Chef’s Knife made by Mercer in my top five comparison. This time the model is the Culinary M22610WBH Millennia.
This one would save a bit of money, compared with the previous version. Although, it is made from high-carbon Japanese steel, rather than German steel as in the first version.
Again, it has the limited lifetime warranty.
Chef’s One-piece High-Carbon 10 Inch Knife
Number 4.
On our list is the Wusthof Pro 10-Inch Cook’s Knife. This Poly handled knife, is suited to both the home chef and professionals alike.
Manufactured from stainless alloyed steel and fitted with an ergonomic handle, it would be sure to get the job done well.
Rust Resistant 10 Inch Chef Knife
Number 5.
Our final selection is the J. A. Henckels International Classic 10-Inch Chef’s Knife. This one is made from German carbon steel and assembled in Spain, with a triple riveted handle.
This knife is the most expensive of our selection and only the number 1 knife comes close to the price. As they mention it features, hot-drop forged blades and bolsters. This is usually a more expensive manufacturing process.
