For reseeding areas of the lawn, the hand held broadcast spreader is all you need. Heavy traffic or parts that have become bare due to being in the shade are a couple of examples. Don’t imagine that the sole purpose of these machines is for repairing small areas. Some have the capacity to hold 25 and 20 lbs. of fresh ready to sow seed. That will cover a fairly large area.
These larger versions often come with shoulder straps to take the weight. The strap also frees up the hands to crank the agitator which throws the seed out. The other hand will control levers that directs and regulates the amount to ensure an even spread. Other versions that have less capacity are either hand cranked or use batteries to apply granules.
These tools have many uses which can be used throughout the year. Applying feed and seed in spring, summer and fall to applying ice melt in the winter.
